The People behind Michael’s Luffas
In the Philippines, luffas are commonly used as washing–up scourers.
Ben and Nancy have a small family farm in the Philippines and having lived in the UK, wanted to offer luffas as washing-up scourers to British consumers.
They sold a small quantity in Brighton on the Sunday street market and through the famous Infinity store. Following this successful test, they returned to the Philippines to grow the luffas on a full-time basis.
Their vision was to make their product as natural as possible, hence they use organic farming techniques (awaiting certification) and use abaca fibre which is extracted from local tree leaves for the string and packaging. They employ 10 people on the farm in various roles. As a family venture, they decided to name the luffas after their son, Michael. We deal directly with Ben and Nancy.
